I packed my things, said goodbye to my new friends and took one last stroll through town to the train station. One final gaze up at the surroundings Alps and then I was on my way. Chris, Greg, Brittany and Dylan were heading out too so we all rode together for the first two hours to Basel, a welcome break from my usual solitary trips. But in Basel I had to say goodbye to them as well and then I had 10 more hours of trains to get me to Vienna. I arrived rather late and headed straight to my hostel. Luckily I actually wrote down the directions and was there in no time. After an encounter with an extremely unfriendly receptionist, I headed to my room with every intention to simply go to sleep. But upon arriving, I met a group of 6 friends from England who were just about to head out and I decided to join them (and I'm so glad I did, Thomas, Josh, Leigh, Will, Laura and Hannah are awesome!). We walked past some of the beautiful buildings that Vienna is famous for to an area filled with food stands for some sort of festival. We grabbed beers from one of the bars underneath a giant screen that they were protecting an opera concert on. We searched for more bars in the area but all of the ones we found were filled with swanky business people and we would all look like bums amongst them. Instead we grabbed some food from the street vendors and another beer from an empty hole-in-the-wall bar before returning to the hostel for the night. Not the exciting night we had imagined but there's always tomorrow!
