YAYYYYYYYY!!!! I'm in Sydney Baby!!
Ok so I leave Byron Bay feeling a little emotional and very homesick. Calling home didn't help as it made me more homesick, however I can always trust my big sis Nilam, to make me feel better. So after a very long bus journey in the pouring rain, (which slightly resembled my emotions at the time.) I finally reached SYDNEY BABY!!! And I was very much looking forward to being reunited with my Cairns buddy, (that I'd known for one night in Cairns before we went our own ways!)
So I get to Bounce Hostel Sydney, and my friend Rebecca (Becca, from England) is waiting for me, and we're both so giddy, because we were in SYDNEY BABY!! We decided not to waste any time and get straight out exploring. Becca had put a great itinerary together so we made the most with the limited time we had there. First stop a walk through Hyde Park, Botanical Gardens and the Domain gardens. Even though it was a grey rainy day, "it didn't matter because we were in Sydney baby!!" The gardens were lovely and was made even more spectacular when we came to the end of one of the gardens and reached the harbour, which had an amazing view of The Sydney Opera House!! As we were there we went to Mrs Macquaire's Chair which had a lovely view of the harbour and the Opera house (but didn't look that much like a chair but more like a big rock! ) After many, many photo of the Opera House, we walked along The Sydney Harbour Bridge, despite the bad weather!! It was a very quick walk because we almost got blown over, neverthless we walked to the end and back again!!
When I was in Cairns I also met John, an English guy that now lived in Sydney. So we met up with him in the The Rocks area of Sydney. This use to be the area where prisoners were brought to years ago, but now it's a really cool trendy area, very quaint, with market stalls and very old buildings. We also met John's friend Lucy. We then had the most random night out ever, that consisted of an old mans pub, Irish bars, many, many ruby players/supporter (as it was the world cup and Ireland had just beat Italy) and a very weird dancing lady! But nevertheless, it was lots of fun in the Surrey Hills area. Even at the end of the night when Becca and I walked for about an hour to try find "some end of the night" food!! Hehe
The next day we met Becca's friend Nikki, who's from England but also now lives in Sydney. We took the ferry across the harbour to Manly where we had a lovely lunch and a walk across the gorgeous beach. There was a festival in Manly town and thankfully the sun was out, as well as the surfers!! J
After Manly we slowly made our way over to Darling Harbour, stopping at several places for a bottle of wine or two. Darling Harbour was stunning with all the lights from the buildings and the reflections on to the harbour. Very impressive!!! Due to our over indulging through the day, Becca and I knew we had to made dinner a cheap one. That's when we realised we hadn't yet visited our hostel's roof top patio, that we were so excited about when we booked. Seen as it was our last night together we thought it was now or never, regardless of the cold weather. So with a Subway and a bottle of wine, we had a toast to our time in Sydney!! Nobody else was up there but it was fine, because we were in Sydney baby!! Haha!! And the view of the city was magnificent!!
The next day I had a few hours out exploring before my flight to Thailand. So we decided to head to Bondi beach. It was not what I expected, maybe if the weather was slightly better it may have been a bit more enjoyable, however at least we can say we stepped foot on Bondi beach . We then took a cliff top walk from Bondi to Bronte beach, which covers several beaches, and has amazing views of South Pacific Ocean crashing against the rocks and beaches!! This was so refreshing, and at the end I also managed to get my long awaited fish and chips!!! BOOM!
So after a quick hair dye job (I did Becca's ) and a farewell hug, I leave for the airport, for my adventure to Thailand. I'm pretty nervous, I think mainly due to the lanuage barrier. How am I going to get around by myself. I know I've been alone so far but in all English speaking coutries. Becca has been before and assurses me I'll be fine. Becca was so lovely, I'm going to miss her lots. She'll be heading to New Zealand before she goes to South America!! No, I am not the least bit jealous!!!!
I've had such an amazing time in Australia and cannot believe this is the end of my time here. I have met some incrediable people and done some awesomethings, these experiences will stay with me for a life time. I don't want to leave!!
Anyways we'll see what Thailand has in store...................
