Hey guys and girls!!!
Firstly I'd like to apoloigies for the lack of updates!!! I have just crammed so much in in the last three weeks, its been awesome!! But I am going to get right on it and tell you about the amazing journey I have just experienced!!!
So I landed in Melborne on the 12th September, and believe it or not its FREEZING!!!!!! Yes people are actually wearing winter coats!!! Damn, I did not prepare for this!!!
In the Base hostel, located in St Kilda, the first person I meet was a guy from Leeds who lives 10 minutes away from me!! Yep I come all the way to Australia and I meet a Leeds lad!!!! Jimmy from Leeds, origional!!
Naturally we become friends! The next day we explored the city and went to the Old Melbourne Gaol where the famous, notorious bushranger Ned Kelly was hung. We were aloud to walk around the gaol and see into the cells where the prisoners lived. I'll tell you something, if prisons in briton were like that then crime rates would be a lot lower!! We seen where people were hung and learnt about the "art of hanging!!" Insane I know but there are actually handbooks on the subject!! We then went to the police station next door where they walked us through the process of being arrested, treating us like real prisoners. They put us in the cells and turn the lights off, it was so creepy!! But an insightful experience.
In the evening we took a walk down St Kilda pier. In the rocks there are penguin nests and on a night they come out. I didnt see any come out however you could look in and they were so cute!! I want to bring one home!! Hehe! And the view from the pier was breathtaking!!
That evening we met another guy called Ben from LA. Remember Ben because we'll meet him again. It was his first time travelling alone and asked if he could hang out with us. So the next day we all hired a car for the day and headed to The Philip Island. Jimmy and I shared the driving, and I was able to drive the automatic!! Yay! Anyways here we saw Koala bears, fed Kangaroos, saw dingo's and many many more amazing wildlife!! It was a freezing day but we had a laugh. In the evening we went to watch a penguin parade on the beach!! We all sat really quietly on the beach and watched them as they came out of the sea in groups of about 10 to 15!! They would start running up the beach to their nests, and there would always be one slow one at the back that couldn't keep up and looked like he was going to fall over!! They were so funny and so cute!!! I loved them!!
That evening I booked my flight to Cairns (where the sun was!!), and I must make a note to self here: In the future when booking a flight, do not press submit until you have checked all the details are correct including your email address, and please do not book 12 hours before you fly, ALLOW MORE TIME!! Oopsy!!
The next day we still had the car so Jimmy dropped me off at the airport and I'll never leave something so last minute again!! Hehe!!
Sunshine here I come!!!
