hi to everyone back home, and "Good Morning Vietnam", after some very long bus journeys of about 30hrs we're finally in hanoi (northern vietnam). what can i say about laos ? everyone says its beautiful and relaxing but we struggled here and didn't go much on it although the tubing was awesome. We headed straight to the capital Vientienne and did the usual by dumping our bags and going for a stroll and came across the best bakery in the world ..... omlette, fruit salad, 2 baguettes with jam and butter, coffee and water for under 2quid (bargain), this place is very laid back so we decidied to go tubing in vang vieng the next day. This requires you to sit on a tractor innertube and float grace fully down the mekong river unless you have huge arse that hits the bottom and goes no-where (that'll be jay). The general idea is to get pissed though as there are many river bank bars that haul you in along the way and with the added benefit of giant adult rope swings into the deeper parts of the mekong, all i will say is i loved it and it was like being a kid again if thats possible but kayleigh didn't like the swings after a failed attempt and face planting into the river ( i tried not to laugh), so we took our time and just carried on. Our next stop was Don Det in the south of Laos and there part of the 4000 islands. Nice little place but full of hippies who just wanna get stoned and restaurants that take an 1hr just to get you a drink... lets just say kayleigh flipped and we had dinner in 5 mins (goog girl) didn't stay long as nowt to do so moved on quickly to Cambodia or at least we tried as the border crossing guards wouldn't stamp kayleigh's passport hence another explosion, no explanation as to why and he wanted kayleigh to say sorry (try and guess what she said) so i did it and we were on our way. As we only had transport to the border we were quickly approached by a bus tout with the usual line "Where you go ?" now in all my wisdom and as we hadn't decided where we wanted to go i replied with "no, where you go?" cheeky little b***** had an answer and said "no i live in cambodia but where you going" this brought a smile to both our faces and after a quick chat in a del boy styley (he found out kayleigh's a london girl) we were on out way to siem reap, home of the great Angkor Wat. What a fantastic time we had here great food, great hotel, and great sights, the temples are amazing although spolied a little by tourists and nature taking its toll, we also think John and Andrew have been let loose here (see pics when they arrive). We did all the usual sightseeing and sunrise at Angkor. We both really enjoyed here and didn't want to leave but Phnom Phen was beckoning and another bus ride which feels like your sat on a washing machine. Phnom Phen was ok and we visited the "killing fields" which was an eye opener but could and probably should of been shocking. Vietnam next and were really clocking up some miles and numb bums, HCMC (Saigon) was the first port of call and we spent 4 days here just relaxing and taking a tour of the Cu Chi tunnels with our tour guide Mr Bin. If ever i've met jackonory this guy was it, it wasn't a case of who, what and when he done it but what he hasn"t done and who he hasn"t met, you name it this guys done it, seen it, got the t-shirt and written his own book, great character though and made you realise and understand about the Vietnam war. Realising we had over stayed and were now playing catch up we worked our way up to Nha Trang for 2 days on the beach then onto Hanoi, i've got a tailor made suit being made as we speak and we have just watched a water puppet show and bought some dodgy cd's 40p an album. We're doing a day trip in Halong Bay then making our way to Hong Kong on Tuesday.
