Hello Everyone! Thanks for the birthday wishes! I overslept this morning but made it down to breakfast in time. As soon as I had settled in at my table, my hosts and all their family/staff came in to the dining room with a double-chocolate muffin, huge shooting sparkler and singing happy birthday to me! What a wonderful surprise! They also gave me the cutest card, signed by everyone. It's a scene of St. Ives so I will always remember spending my birthday here.
After breakfast I had to get ready to be at the bus stop by 10:40 where I was being picked up to go to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The bus was a little bit early but waited for me to catch up as I had just crossed the street. There were a few more pick ups along the way but we got to the gardens around noon. For the next four hours, I wandered around the property enjoying the scenery, exotic plants, and unique features. I took some pictures, so be sure to check them out. I don't know how many miles I walked. It wasn't too bad. But, it was so hot & muggy in the "jungle" I could hardly stand it! I was glad to get out of there. It was chilly & cloudy when I left the B&B so I wore jeans. By the time we got to the gardens, it was really sunny and very warm. I left my jacket & umbrella on the bus and was wishing I had worn shorts.
One of the highlights was all the wildlife cams they had set up here & there. In the Horsemoor Hide, you could watch the owl cam live. There was a mama owl and five owlets. They were so cute! You could also sit and watch some of the native birds come up to the feeders right outside the blind. There was going to be a butterfly walk but I didn't do that. I didn't even make it to some parts of the property. Right before leaving I noticed on the map that there was a section called the Crystal Grotto. How did I miss that? I thought about going back to try to see it but it was 3:50 and the bus was leaving at 4:00, so I have no idea what it looked like.
I think I fell asleep on the bus ride back. I was so tired. I knew that Jo & Duncan were going to pick me up at 6:30 and I really wanted to take a shower. Didn't get back until 5:30 and had to scramble. They wanted to take me to a certain restaurant in Pendeen which was quite a long drive away. But, when we got there, it was closed! So, then it was a scramble to figure out a Plan B. After driving through a few more towns, we decided to get fish & chips and take them to the beach to eat, so that's what we did. We drove to a beautiful spot called Sennen Cove (near Land's End), parked and sat on the sea wall to eat our dinner. We were rewarded with a gorgeous sunset over the water! It was beautiful! There was a lot of sea mist/fog (or, dragon's breath like in the movie, "Excalibur") in the area where we are staying but it was pretty clear at Sennen Cove.
Tomorrow, Jo & I are going to go do something. Not sure what, yet. But there is more to explore! Tomorrow is my last full day in Cornwall. It's supposed to be another warm day.
