March 25th
Dinner last night was a somewhat sober affair, Jurgen does not appear to have much of a sense of humour, nice enough but a bit too Teutonic. Mind you – he could have been tired as he rode for 11 hours yesterday!
Had a chat with Uschi and she is concerned about the lack of bookings she has and is fed up with some of the Americans who daren't come to Mexico as there has been some trouble about 1500 miles from here on the border and geography not always being their strong point, they feel it is unsafe. Come on chaps, live dangerously!!
I had breakfast with Katrin today and she suggested I should go for a ride this morning on Palomo (it means Dove), so I agreed to give it a whirl and rode for 2 hours with a stop for cerveza, naturally. We only walked but it felt OK, the movement was gentle enough to take some of the stiffness away. Palomo is beautiful, a real gentle gentleman and he is supposed to be the smoothest ride.
Tomorrow there is a couple from India riding here for the day – absolute beginners , so will probably go with them and then go off on a trip to Jilatopec in the afternoon . Apparently they are called the Kumars, so I shall have to keep a smile of my face! For those of you who aren’t British – the Kumars is a sitcom about a stereotypical Indian family. There is a market in Jilatopec and I need to buy a hat as the sun is very strong and my nose is peeling already! They also have 100% leather hand stitched boots for about $25 (US) so I may try some of them on. Also very tempted by this beautiful pottery and table runners etc. Got to get it all home
though........
After a riveting lunch with Jurgen, he left to go play with his 747 and I adjourned to the hot tub and a spot of reading. The humming birds are constant visitors to the nectar feeders and I have been trying to get a photo but the little blighters are too quick for me. I have managed to get a couple of nice ones of the resident swallows though.
As I am the only guest here tonight, it’s cook’s night orf and Uschi took me out to a restaurant where we met up with Katrin as well. Really the driving here is abysmal, makes Turkish drivers look positively fantastic! Uschi says that you concentrate only on what is in front of you, just as well with a trail of destruction behind you!!
It’s nice to be back riding again, after all – it’s the reason I came. I shall only walk for another couple of days until the stiffness wears off. No point in rushing things, I’ve got until after Easter.
Early night tonight, I need to get a good night’s sleep and catch up.
