What can we say about Sydney, except it is a great city! We have been here over two weeks – the longest we have stayed anywhere, and we are sure we could stay longer! We have settled in like we were meant to live here. We spent one week in our own studio apartment in Cremorne, North of the City which was cool and then we moved in with Craig and Ruth, some friends we met in Vietnam. How weird is this, when we got to Cremorne we contacted Ruth to let her know we had arrived (not knowing where they lived) and found out they were renting an apartment only a 3 minute walk away! Of all the places we could have chosen to stay we picked one so close! So for the past week or so we have been lodging with them.
Sydney is a beautiful city, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, the Rock, the café culture, and at night it is so picturesque. We arrived in time for Mardi Gras, which was crazy busy but we managed to get a glimpse of some of the floats and Craig helped Dawn up tree as she couldn’t see anything, however, once up the tree she was bellowed at by the police to get down! So that was a shortlived view.
We visited the famous Bondi Beach and partook in the beautifully scenic Bondi to Coogee walk (as recommended by Chris and Leona) it was beautiful and when we got to Coogee we sat on the beach for sunset, and a storm started brewing and it was amazing watching the lighting and storm clouds – we have never seen anything like it. We went back to Coogee the next day to watch the final of the Iron man Series which was great fun, and now Jason wants to train to enter one!. Another thing to add to his list of things he wants to do…what is it now at 101.
We also walked the 3 hour Spit Junction to Manly walk which again offered some great scenery. We got the boat back across to the city at sunset and saw the bridge in all its glory.
Lots of shopping and sightseeing around the city itself, including Sky Tower, Botanic Gardens, Darling Harbour, Chinatown. We also went to see Gina Yashere (British Comedian from BBC series Blouse and Skirts) at the Sydney Comedy Club and she was hilarious! We met her afterwards in the bar and had a chat to her and got our photo with her…celeb spotters or what! She was just as funny off stage as she was on stage.
We have visited Taronga Zoo which was one of those good/bad experiences. We saw a seal and bird show which was so clever and amazing but at the same time we saw animals that just didn’t look happy and they shouldn’t be caged. The Zoo is on a hill and you get some great views of the harbour, opera house and bridge, and there is cable car ride included in the entry which takes you over the elephant enclosure, which is odd, and another first for us – riding over elephants in a cable car!.
We have had a ball here and in a way are sorry to leave, however, many more places to experience. We fly to the Gold Coast Tuesday night for a week of touristy beach action, water parks and theme parks and then we think it will be Brisbane, Frazer Island, no firm plans really.
As usual thanks for all your messages and photos. Hope you like the new look website, we think its ace and we can’t believe how many photos we have put on it! Hope you enjoy looking at them.
