Travelled by bus to Siem Reap to visit the infamous Angkor Wat – a trip we were really looking forward to. We were amazed at the sheer scale of Angkor Wat and the number of temples surrounding it – it is huge and the guide books do not do it justice. We certainly weren’t disappointed and enjoyed our two days of touring this vast empire. Our first day consisted of visiting Angkor Wat and the Bayon Temple – two huge temples, Angkor Wat is the biggest religious monument in the world and the Bayon as it has multiple sculptured faces in the rocks. Our second day was an early start to see sunrise, 4.15am start and we visited a further 11 temples which included Ta Prom which was probably our favourite, and most recognized temple because of the huge fig tree roots enveloping the buildings, and Ta Som for its end gate which is totally engulfed by one of these trees. Pictures are amazing. Apart from spending time in awe of these temples we also spent a lot of time saying no thank you to the pesky kids who at every given opportunity were trying to sell us everything from a cold drink to a flute!!! Everything for $1, bless them. Even when Jay pretended he was German, a kid started speaking German to him, then French, then Spanish, you get the drift. All this and these kids were only about 6 and not at school. The town of Siem Reap was full of restaurants and bars so we ate some good food and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
We are currently in Bangkok on the infamous Khao San Road – on route to Koh Toa Island to do our open water padi diving course. Hope everyone back home is well and prepared for Christmas, it doesn't feel like Christmas here its odd! have a good one and we will call the respective families when we hit Koh Tao, in the next few days, providing we can find Skype.
