Travelled to Airle Beach and stayed at Backpackers by the Bay. Decided to make and effort and look for work. Lots of places looking for workers but with experience. Wasn't a hard decision to book our Whitsundays tour instead. Had a night out in Airlie and just as we were going to go home we decided to have a burger, as you do! Just ordered and who was standing next to me but none other than Matthew McConagughy, a Hollywood A-lister who is in Oz to film a new movie near port Douglas. Couldnt not believe it..don't think I did until Karen asked him his name and introduced herself. He had a head torch thingy on she asked for a shot of it, he said "No" so of course she took it anyway.... Think we were both in awe of his Hollywood status so we followed him and went back to the pub just to watch what he was up to. He was pretty drunk and looked at though he was having a crazy night.
Booked ourselves onto a boat called 'The Clipper' to tour the Whitsundays, a group of islands just off the shore from Airlie. We were just getting ready to go when we spotted some Irish guys we had shared with in Carins, Mark, Shane and PJ. Turns out they were going to be on our boat too! Our boat was the biggest in the marina, had three levels and a spa on the top! had to take a wee boat out to it, trying to get in and out of that with our stuff was difficult enough. Clipper could hold about 60 passengers but because it's a new boat they were only taking 35 passengers, plus 5 crew. Once boarded we sailed out tot eh island and docked somewhere for the night. Had a great first night on board. Met Fergal and Jim who were friends of the irish boys. Drank loads of goon and played a few drinking games. Jim was hilarious and could not for the life of him ge the knack of games we were playing...so funny. Ended up going into the spa at midnight for at least 3 hours with Fergal, Jim, Shane, Marco and Tom (the funniest germans we've met so far!) Tried drowning each other and throwing 'Wilson' the football about until Marco threw him into the sea, what a commotion at the thought of Wilson all alone out at sea! We were all like wrinkly prunes when we got out. Fergal had put all our towels into the spa so no-one had a dry towel to spare...all went to bed cold and wet.
The next day we were woken with shouts of 'Beach run' at half past 7. The boat had been moved and we had to rush breakfast and get ready to hop off the boat for a visit to Whitehaven beach, voted one of the top 5 beaches in the world. Went to the lookout first, what a gorgeous view! Blue, blue water, white sand swirling underneath...gorgeous! Went down to the beach and spent two hours there. Played football with the boys from the boat and swam a bit in our sexy stinger suits! Some gorls said they saw small sharks, glad I didn't. Went back to the boat and jumped from the top with Jimmy, one of the crew. Went snorkelling, prob thte best spot we've done it at so far, so many coloured fish and bigger fish too. Karen started freaking out that she was going to kick the coral and we were getting bored so headed back to the boat quite quickly. Spent most of the day chatting to the boys. Jim went scuba diving as he has his certificate, but he can't swim...the irish eh?! Watched him do a James Bond style escape from the boat...so funny! All we could see were his yellow flippers in the air flapping about. Had another good night on teh boat, learning lots of new drinking games.
Our last day on the boat wasn't great weather, cloudy and a bit cold. Played cards with the boys and had a rough journet back to land. Marco and I stood at the front of the boat to get a good view and the most motion, just as a huge wave came over the front and soaked us both!
Stayed at Magnums when we got back in a twin room, pure luxury!! Met up with the group from the boat again at night for something to eat and a few drinks....went to a place called Reefos where the crew had booked us a table....more dancing on the tables. This time wearing Fregal's trainers???!!!
Had a great time on the boat. Our sea legs lasted another 24 hours and we felt sick most of the next day, we would be walking along and then get a sudden wave of being back on the boat.
