Had a nightmare journey on the overnight bus from Airlie beach to the Town of 1770 (named so bacause that's when Captain Cook discovered it.). Took us 10 hours...it was a long night.
Stayed at a hostel called Cool Bananas, recommemded as the best hostel on the east coast. It was very nice, very very chilled and very clean too. Nice for a change. Decided to take another surf lesson becasue they were only $16 but when we got there we couldn't go becasue there was alot fo Coral algae in the sea and it can be bad for you if it gets into any cuts. Because of all the mosi bites we decided it wasn't becoming ill over so gave the surf lessons a miss. Decided to go on a 'Scooter-roo' tour instead. It only cost $40 for a 3 hour tour and we got to drive our own mini chopper bikes, like mini harley davidsons. Had great fun and it was quite easy to ride the bikes. We both got stuck behind one fat guy on the way up a hill and had to nearly stop becasue his bike couldn't take it. Managed to get up to a speed of 70k! Saw lots of kangaroos and stopped to watch the sunset over the beach. Poor Kar got attacked by one of the bikes, one girl put her hand the wrong way on the accelerator and her bike careered into Kar who had a massive bruise on her leg.....not only that but she also burnt her leg on the exhaust! Not her day!
On our last day we took a free tour of 1770, drove to a couple of look out points. I sunbathed the rest of the day (couldn't surf because the stuff was still in the sea) while Karen went flying. She was allowed to fly the plane for a bit herself...maybe glad I wasn't there!!
