Pai absolutely lived up to its name as a hippy destination - the town is full of genuine hippies, wannabe tourist hippies, reggae bars, ukulele shops, "special herb" pizza stalls, tattoo parlours and hair salons specialising in dreadlocks. A lot of the cafes claim "organic" this and "vegetarian" that and it was the first town where Sonja wasn't the only western tourist shopping at the local fruit and veg markets.
There were many attractions within 10/20 km of the centre of town so it was a great place for people like us who like to hire bicycles and explore the sites on our own instead of hiring scooters or joining package tours. While we were there we visited water falls, a canyon, some very hot hot-springs, and other un-noteworthy attractions marked on the tourist map. The temperatures were around 40°C which made it hard to enjoy some of the longer rides and slightly pointless swimming in the hot-springs but we had a great time there none the less.
Every town we go to now, we bump into other people we've met along the way in SE Asia which we're going to miss when we get to Europe and will have to start from scratch. It's always interesting to compare notes and find out what other travellers chose to do between "town A, X days ago" and the town where we see them again.

peter Very well done you two, I hope Europe will be as good to you both as S.E. Asia has been. We are still really enjoying the blogs and photos.
