Hello from the sunny Lake District. Keswick is a delightful little town right on the edge of Derwentwater, and with access to hundreds of walking, hiking and climbing trails. Because of our slight incapacity we opted today to hire bicycles and do a rail trail from Keswick to Threlkeld a small village sporting 2 x pubs and a few houses. The trail was 8 miles return and mostly flat, although even the slight hills seemed like mountains to me- not being bicycle fit. My hands were getting very sore with the jarring, not to mention my bum!!! Anyway, it was a glorious day and the shady trail along side a river was excellent. We had a large drink of water and an enormous pot of coffee before we turned around again and headed back to Keswick. The return trip seemed to take no time at all and mostly downhill.
Once back in Keswick we got tickets for the Derwentwater launch - a 50 minute round trip with lots of stopping off points and walks between. We got off at one of the stops and walked into a nearby village and just happened upon a beautiful hotel high up on a hill overlooking the lake. We had the obligatory pint of beer (1/2 for me) and a nice late lunch of sandwiches and pate.
Back on the boat and took the long way back to Keswick. A walk through the town and back to the B & B for Paul to put his leg up and me to catch up with the blog, photos etc.
It has truely been a beautiful day. All we have to do now is find somewhere for dinner and plan our trip tomorrow for Scotland.
