Back in Europe, staying at the Ritz in Madrid.
I am here to see the art exhibition which includes one of our best collected artists Juan Davila. We lent the painting to the famous museum Reina Sofia,so they were so grateful they arranged a 2 hour guided tour with one of the curators Andre Mesquita from Brazil.
The exhibition is titled 'Losing the Human Form'.Andre explains the there are some 600 exhibits, but only 2 paintings. The rest are photos, prints, drawings, videos, films,
Sculpture,etc.
In brief the exhibition is about repression and freedom(including sexual freedom)in Latin America in the1980's.There was little freedom in these countries in this period. Therefore in this show there is a lot about demonstrations, violence, torture and a strong theme about gay movements.
The exhibition is a standout and has recieved a lot of publicity.
There are a number of exhibitions at this museum, one that was great showed the art movement of the 1930,s.
I met my Harvard friend Adrian Beer to catch up on events in Europe.
Then off to Vienna .
