We stopped twice on the way back at some the old islands we have visited, but in different bays. After Brac, we cruise 4.5 hours to Lastovo Island. We swam, snorkled and walked to Lastovo town. We finished one Canasta game and started another. Bernie and Alison and Janet are thrashing the Garnauts and MB. MB is suspicious of misdealing, which is a coping mechanism for not being able to win.
Sunday, we cruise 5 hours to Dubrovnik so that we can check out of Croatia.
It is sunday so we go to mass at the cathedral. The Woodland's and Garnaut's take us to an extravagant dinner at the best restaurant in town.
Monday we cruise to Kotor in Montenegro.
Our summary of our Croatian trip:
We were surprised by the natural beauty of the places we have visited. Rugged, rich lush forests, beautiful clean warm water, even if it does lack coral and fish.
So many of the islands are within a short distance 1-2 hours cruising which makes for pleasant travel. No wind and no clouds makes for perfect sea travel. The spectacular small and large renaissance towns, each with their own history and culture, have been stunning.
The food has been excellent with a good variety of fresh foods including fish of many species, great breads and cheeses and oils. Europe's peak summer is very busy but we could always find a reasonably isolated anchorage if we wanted to.
The tourist infrastructure here is developing, language generally is not an issue as many seem to speak some English. Most things are inexpensive. Art, culture and history are very sophisticated here and the people are proud of their heritage. Our guides were well educated and articulate.
We had a lot of fun. We finish the trip with a pirate party,we had a special guest Bojan Jokanovic who had bought us the best Montenegran wine.Garnaut was our Jack Sparrow for the night.
We all went to dinner with crew to thank them for another great adventure.
Next week we enter our 7th month of our European Odyssey. We will restart the blog in Malta on the 7th of September. See you then.
