Friday 26th August
Today we spent all day down at Plage de Garoup. We found ourselves a couple of cheap loungers and an umbrella and made ourselves comfortable. Wasn’t too long and we had to have a swim and we got a table at the restaurant right next to where our loungers were. Omelet for me and crepe for Jannie plus of course the beer. We spent most of the day watching people and having a right old giggle at times. A family with two small boys, 3 and 5, arrived right in front of us with enough luggage to cover half of the beach. Dad started unrolling an inflatable canoe and soon both the boys were fighting to pump the thing up. Eventually it was all pumped up but took the best part of the hour and meanwhile the kids got their flippers and snorkels and masks on and gave us a right giggle as they reminded us of Michael at the same stage of his life.
Mum took one of the boys swimming – a long way out – and soon Dad took off in the canoe leaving Jannie to mind the smallest boy. I was in swimming and mum came in and even though we didn’t speak the language we understood the dressing down dad got from mum! There were the odd topless women and it was funny watching people walking past them. Another small girl aged about 5 and she played and played all day – she reminded us of the small daughter in the television show Medium. She had the same attitude. She dug holes, made sandcastles, made mountains with moats, borrowed spades and the like from the family with the boat.
We wandered home tired out and all we have done was laid back on our loungers, ate and swam. Although we haven’t done all on the list because it has been too hot we have enjoyed Antibes.
