We returned to Renmark in the pitch black on 17th May at about 9pm! As we drove to a free campsite in Murtho (an place consisting of a river, a road, an orange factory and very little else!) about 15km from Renmark, our eyes were pretty much glued to the windscreen watching out for any kangaroos that might want to jump in front of the van. We arrived back in Waikerie, and after purchasing ourselves some picking bags, we went to Kathys' (our new boss) house. We signed a few forms and were told to be there the next morning at 7am to start work. We set off for the 250 km drive to Adelaide Wednesday morning, stopping off for lunch in a very small town -also on the Murray River- called Blanchetown. We found a cheap campsite just 5 kms outside the city centre and booked in for 3 nights to begin with. The next day we got the bus into the city and got straight into the job hunting. It was a bit strange coming into a big city and going straight into looking for work, without even doing a bit of sightseei...

The day we left Mildura was the real day of the locusts! As we were driving along the highway towards South Australia, the locusts started to appear more and more frequently, hitting the van like hailstones, until eventually it was like a black cloud outside and that was all we could see. We had never seen anything like it before. It was so bad that we were having to stop every 2 minutes or so to wipe the windscreen clear of the dead carcasses, and ti scrape them...

We arrived in Mildura on Easter sunday not expecting to find a campsite with spaces, but found a big one which sat right on the Murray River. The Murray River here was also the border between Victoria and New South Wales. Our first night was spent drinking with a group of Aussie lads who had been doing watersports on the Murray over the weekend.
