James and Dan travel the world
Ok its supposed to be cheaper but a bottle of beer costs 2 quid so thats pretty much outside our budget.
We started out In Melaka the cultural hub of the country, the best thing about it was a free vegetarian restaurant, yes free and delicious.
Kuala Lumpur is another big city so after 1 day there we were longing to get away from it all for a bit. So we headed to Taman Negara, Malaysia's largest national park. To get into the heart of the rainforest we had to take a 3hr, longboat journey up the river on which we saw monkeys and huge monitor lizards emerging from the forest. Life is that bit more basic there so its relaxing. The following day we took an 8hr trek in to the deep jungle taking in the 25m high canopy walkway which was damn wobbly and creaky but probably safe. The highlight had to be the bat cave where we crawled throught small gaps in the pitch black surrounded by bats, and emerged stinking of bat s***!! It doesnt sound to good really but it was an amazing experience.
The next stop was the Cameron Highlands, which at around 2000m up has refreshingly cold English style weather, you can all camplain about it at home but its not that great it being hot and sunny all the time. Well actually it is but it was nice to cool off for a few days. We took another trek in the jungle here before stopping of in Penang as our last destination in Malaysia. Good times.
