What fort!

The bus journey from Ajmer to Pushkar was bumpy and long but we only had six near crashes, so a bit of a result for Indian buses. The last 40 minutes I made a delightful friend called Rajesh a fourteen year old boy who loved to practice his English. He had some funny sayings and described everything he enjoyed about India by emphasising the word 'what'. For example, when describing the Taj it was, 'what monument' and the sunset at Mount Abu, 'what sunset'!

Chittor isn't a tourist stop off point and the accommodation options are limited. We found the cheapest one and stayed there. Clean it wasn't but cheap it was so with the sleeping bag liners and some hand wash we were good to go! I didn't feel too great and couldn't eat anything in the evening and we got woken up so early the next morning by men chatting outside our room that we didn't feel full of beans to explore the fort, but it was our only chance to see the fort, and 'what fort' it was! We took an auto, driven by the cook from the restaurant last night, around the all the main sites. The fort was certainly worth the stop over with amazing old relics, fort buildings, pigs, monkeys and temples. I bought a cute postcard from a beggar girl and I had to have a quick nap in the back of the auto while James explored the last few monuments without me!

An hour wait at the train station and we soon got talking to a guy from UP asking us lots of the usual questions every foreigner must get asked and then became obsessed with how much money we earned and the equivalent in 'Indian currency'. As is typical in India we soon got a crowd and our personal bank details were shared among the majority of men at the train station! I took out our guide book to have a look through what we were going to do in Bundi, the next stop. This caused a commotion and it turned from me reading into picture book time. I had a group of men, women and children looking through the pictures of India's highlights and I was pointing at the pictures and telling them where each of the sites are. A few of the men took it upon themselves to repeat, the place names as soon as the words left my mouth which James and I found highly amusing!
