We crossed the border into Victoria and went to Cape Conran. This was another spot we had been recommended to visit by J&H and it was a really picturesque beach with a look out that was similar to the Whitsundays. We ventured across the rising tide so we could visit an unexplored section of the beach. When I saw unexplored I mean not as popular as you have to wade thigh high through the water. We found a nice camping spot right next to the Snowy river which we were informed by some locals is one of the most important water ways in Australia.
The next day we had planned to stop at a paid campsite as our personal hygiene was getting beyond a joke. In the camps6 book we found a spot right out of the way and bordering lake Victoria, perfect or so we thought. As we got closer the people started to look stranger and the houses didn't look too habitable. We got to the camp site and there were no other tourists just a group of weird looking locals who glared at us. It was like something from a zombie movie. We were too scared to even ask for the price of a site, not that it would have mattered we were not hanging around! James did a 'quick' you-e something that is pretty tricky in a 92 van with no power steering and we drove off sharpish!
As the saying goes, 'Every cloud..' We found a great spot a little further down the road which also meant we would be closer to our destination for tomorrow!
