We spent a few hours in Kmart and Coles stocking up and as soon as possible we started our long drive towards Cairns. Noosa Heads was where we ended up on our first night but stopped at a few beaches along the way. Noosa is a lovely little town but a bit swanky for us so we cheekily stopped in the National Park for our first night in Monica. We managed to acquire a boogey board at a rest stop but someone stole one of our camp chairs from the top of Monica. We saw lots of surfers along the way and we really felt we were in Australia. I got excited when we saw our first kookaburra but wasn't so delighted when it started singing/cackling in the early hours of the morning. One of our stops was to Bundaberg where they make the famous rum, we were hoping to see turtles lay their eggs on a stretch of the beach but unfortunately the flash floods destroyed that part of the beach. Another detour we took was to Rockhampton and was more successful as the town has a free zoo in the botanical gardens and we saw all the native wildlife including wombats and dingoes!
