8th-12th June

Ilha do Mel or Honey Island really was as sweet as its name, no motorised vehicles are allowed on the island so it was really peaceful and pretty. We had planned to spend a few days relaxing on the beach but, unfortunately the weather didn't allow it. This didn't deter us and instead we did a LOT of walking and exploring. I think our average was about 9km per day and this covered all sorts of terrain including rocks, mud, sand, grass and gravel. Highlights of our explorations were a fort, caves, the beaches and seeing dolphins in the sea whilst having a drink (soft drink Darren!) on some rocks, where shortly after I slipped and now have a nasty graze on my shin and a deep cut on my foot, do not panic everyone popped some savlon on and a plaster and it is starting to heal-phew! I do have to mention a lovely companion who decided to accompany us on our 12 km walk to the fort; she was beautiful, long legs and jet black hair. We didn't know her name so we called her Burt and she was a great friend and loyal companion we miss her greatly. All in all a lovely place, despite only one day with sunshine we enjoyed it, rain and all.
