13th-14th June

We got our first sleeper bus from Curitiba to Foz do Iguacu and arrived with at least 5 hours of sleep between us. The weather had started to turn and we wanted to ensure we saw the falls in all their glory so this was a whistle-stop tour, no time to catch up on sleep. It had been recommended to us to see both sides of the falls so the 13th we spent the morning on the Brazilian side where we saw such spectacular views, got soaking wet at the Devil's throat because we would not paying R$7 each for a poncho and luckily the weather was so hot we didn't need too. The falls were huge and the sound they made was, at times deafening. Everywhere you looked there were different falls, high ones, thin ones and the most perfect rainbow I have ever seen was casted over the Devil's Throat (ironic) the whole time. The park itself was more touristy then imagined and although there were other tourists there it didn't feel overcrowded.

From the falls we got a bus straight to the Itaipu Dam, this was also an amazing sight but in a different way. The dam provides enough energy for the whole of Paraguay and 7% of Brazil. James was embarrassed by me twice as I shouted 'YES' when the guide asked if anyone only spoke English and then screamed when he flicked a bug on my chest, I may have given a bad impression of the English and I apologise.

We ate at a supermarket restaurant, as recommended by our hostel receptionist. This may sound a bit rubbish but it was not. It was one of the cheapest meals we have had in Brazil but also one of the best, with all sorts of traditional Brazilian treats which we obviously devoured.

Today was our last morning in Brazil as we crossed the border this morning and are now on Argentinean soil. We spent the whole day on the other side of the falls where the views were equally jaw-dropping but the park was bigger so we walked more and were able to walk over the top of some of the waterfalls, using a walkway not actually on water! A girl we met from Oxford, who was actually from Hong Kong wasn't as impressed and her summary of the day was 'I prefer the Brazil side, this side too much water, I prefer small things I got too wet!' Brilliant.
