Jane And Alex's Big Holiday
The actual town consists of 2 streets, one where all the houses are and the other with the shop and glacier guide companies. very pretty and peaceful with gorgeous hot weather!
Plan was to walk the glacier on 24th, Jane's birthday but she was feeling really ill so it was postponed until the next morning. Spent that day in the hot tub, sunbathing then had a massive fish and chips which looked a lot nicer than it was!
Got up early saturday and got the bus to the beginning of the glacier walk. we didn't realise only hour and a half of the 5 hour tour was walking on the ice, there was a 45 min walk to the terminal face of the glacier. lots of fresh springs coming out the mountains. walking on the glacier was really hard work, was fascinating though to see walkways and staircases cut into the ice. we all had a lick of the glacier, fresh! wore special crampons (spikey shoes) to walk on the ice which were really heavy and uncomfortable. was a brilliant experience!
Had a really nice birthday, got breakfast in bed and some cool pressies!
