We had a true rockstar weekend! On Saturday morning we got up early to head to the airport in Adelaide as our plane was leaving at 9:45 for Melbourne. Layla was under the impression that we were going to Melbourne to do more shopping that we missed out on last time we were there (she only got 1 dress!!). While Layla and Leanne were buying me some gum I approached the gate agents and asked if they could help my out by telling Layla that she was going to see Katy Perry in Melbourne when she asked what was fun to do there. She was very shocked and very happy...didn't stop smiling for about 5 or 6 hours!
We arrived in Melbourne at around noon, got in our Busy Beaver shuttle and made our way to pick up the rental car.
We got to Bourke Street at about 1:00 and after some very tricky driving and 3-point turns, I was able to find a parking spot. We had about 4 hours to check out some shops and explore the CBD.
After getting one more shot at the Lululemon outlet we went to get a Starbucks coffee only to find out that they were out of brewed coffee! WTF!
We headed back to the hotel to get the girls dressed and ready for the show; this is when it started to rain...hard. We called a taxi and were warned that it would take a long time to get one as it was Saturday night and the Katy Perry concert was happening. The concert was to start at 7:30 and we got into our cab at 7:25. We made it in time to hear the opening act thumping away in the arena...whew...a close call. We had time to get some merch, some fish and chips, and to find our seats. The show started at 9:00 and finished just after 11:00 with two encores. It was a brilliant show and a packed house. This is where the fun really began!
We left the arena and made our way, in the rain, to where the taxis were supposed to pick us up. After waiting in the rain and cold for an hour we decided to walk toward the direction of the hotel in the hope of hailing a cab along the way...no luck. We made it 2.5 km and came to a train station where some police officers instructed us to keep walking to a pub district where there would be a cab. We did, shivering but not giving up. It was now 12:00 am and we were in the middle of somewhere in Melbourne, cold and wet. We managed to hear music and found a pub where a cab was dropping off some partying girls...we were in! We made it back to the hotel in about 15 minutes and went up to our room to warm up and collapse after a very eventful day.
The next day was very relaxed. We all slept in a bit, got in the car and headed to the airport where we enjoyed a relaxed lunch while we waited for our plane. It was a very hectic weekend but one Layla will definitely never forget (me either!)
