Another day wasted by buses. I would storm out of Guatemala in anger if I wouldn`t get delayed along the way. This incident involved our bus breaking down and us having to wait until two in the morning for another bus to pick us up. I eventually slept standing up in the isle of a bumpy bus crammed upright by other passengers. We slept in the next day and were forced to delay our visit to the Tikal ruins for the next day.
We booked a trip at three in the morning to see the sunrise over the ruins, not worrying about the time as we have lost all sense of a sleeping pattern over the last few weeks. Shame it was so cloudy that the sunrise was not visible though. The Tikal ruins were very impressive at least; there are much grander structures that the Inca ruins I saw in Peru, and the site is covered by dense forest with only the tops of the temples visable from the highest point in the ruins.
We also met Bas, a Dutch friend of ours at Tikal, which invariably meant that it was a drunken night before our five o`clock bus journey the next day. This time there was a fiesta in the town square with lots of drunk dancing locals as company.
