I am definitely not used to the friendly Colombian spirit. When I arrived at the bus station in Medellin and had five policemen walking me around the bus station, I wasn´t feeling too comfortable. What it turned out they were doing was finding directions for my hostel for me to tell a taxi driver where to take me. They even negotiated a price for the taxi and didn´t even expect a tip in return.
My plans for taking more Spanish lessons have fallen flat and I have still after three days not yet seen the city center though I am planning to go today. I did make it out of the city to a massive rock in the middle of beautiful lakes and countryside.
Strangely, the nightlife is equally quiet here too, the first night seemed hopeful but it started to go sour when an idiotic American in our taxi was convinced that a Colombian guy that offered to take us to a bar was trying to rob us. He ran out of the taxi in the middle of the road, pretended to be sick and started running home, probably with no idea where to go. The bar turned out to be empty and we arrived back at the hostel where the American guy was sitting calmly as if nothing had happened.
