Here ends the South American part of my trip before I hit central accompanied by Duncan, but it would have been hard to end on a better note. As a city Cartagena has a lot to offer; the forts and colonial buildings in the historic center are great to explore though just outside this area is bustling caribbean style markets. And of course a few nights of revelry were involved in the mix.
We got into a bit of a routine here. As Cartagena is also very popular with rich Colombian and American tourist, most of the bars and restarants were ridiculously pricy. This only left a local restaruant with an owner that liked nothing more than showing off his new bike and not working very hard and our regular bar, which was nice and respectable as long as we weren´t there after dark. After sunset, most of the tables are taken by only one man, twiddling his thumbs and waiting for his ´date´. When most of their prostitues arrive, it empties out a bit until the even dirtier prostitues arrive later on in the night.
Since we did little else than explore, there´s not much more to mention. I could easily forget visiting the beach in the district full of expensive holiday homes. The beach wasn´t that great, at least for being part of the caribbean and the whole area just looked like Miami. A few hours was enough there before heading back to our homely slums with a box of rum.
