We decided to leave on Thursday (a few weeks ago now!) for Lethbridge instead of Friday as we were both starting work on Monday we wanted to get back on Sunday so that we could relax before work. We left Fernie at about 1.30pm and stopped at the worlds largest truck on the way! It was pretty huge! We then just headed straight for Lethbridge. The drive was fine, we left the rockies and hit the prairies so there was quite a contrast in the scenery. We arrived at Jonny and Sarah's at about 5.00 and it was a great reunion! We know Jonny and Sarah from when we were all travelling in New Zealand.
It was so hot when we got there, we all headed down to the Old Man river for a swim and a ride through the rapids, and finding stones to skim. All the time watching out for rattle snakes (we didn't see any) as there were signs saying to watch out for them as this is their natural habitat!! We then went back to their house and just spent the night playing Mario on the original Nintendo and catching up on the last few years.
On Friday Jonny and Sarah went out to work and we went shopping, as we both needed to get bits and pieces that we couldn't get in Fernie. After shopping we went to Jonny's work for a tour. He works at the College of Lethbridge and his job is amazing!! He is responsible for getting labs ready for people who are studying animals and there is a freezer that we walked through that is full of dead cougars, bears, deer and many other things. Even though they were frozen they smelled really bad!! We saw lots of skeletons of different animals and lots of other cool stuff. Oh, and just incase you were wondering, the dead animals are usually brought in by members of the public as roadkill or something like that, they're not killed for studying purposes!
That night, Sarah had been cooking some bbq ribs since the morning and they were amazing. We had a few drinks, played some board games and then decided it would be a good idea to go out for a midnight bike ride. They have a tandem bike, so me and Jack got on that (there were no injuries or accidents!) and we cycled to the park and back. First time on a tandem after a few drinks and with Jack steering, but it turned out ok.
On Saturday we got up late, had some of Jonny's speciality breakfast pancakes (with bacon and egg and syrup) and washed it down with white russians as it was Jack's birthday! We then headed out to a rodeo! I'm not sure how I feel about the rodeo, the bull riding was ok, but when they are lasooing calfs and then tying them up, it felt a bit wrong... but at least now we can say that we have been to a real rodeo and don't have to go to another! After the rodeo we went home via KFC as a bucket of chicken with a candle in it was what Jack wanted instead of a birthday cake, so that is what he got! When the kfc was finished we headed back out for monster trucks! Sooo much better than the rodeo! The trucks were brilliant, they just crushed other cars and flew up into the air, we got some really great pictures too. There was a carnival next to the trucks so we went on one ride and tried to win a remote control helecopter and then went home.
On Sunday we just chilled out in the morning then headed back to Fernie in the afternoon. All of a sudden the weather had gone from boiling hot 30 degrees to going back to Fernie and there is snow on the top of the rockies!! It's started to heat up a little more now though so thats good. so of course on Monday we both started work, my day was great, Jack didn't really like his job, so he actually found another one and started last week, working for Home Hardware which is like B&Q. We started looking for somewhere to live, and on Wednesday we moved in to an apartment! It is a 1 bedroom apartment, on the top floor (only 3 stories high) and we have an amazing view of the rockies and the ski hill. It has a balcony too! And a sofa bed so if anyone's planning a visit, somewhere to stay! It's
decor is pretty dated so we'll try and get it to look a bit better!
The last couple of weeks we've just been working, but have had a couple of nights out with some friends. Jack played a round of Frolf (frisbee golf) which he really enjoyed so we will do that again. We don't have cable tv (which pretty much means we don't have tv!) so I have learned to knit and am more than half way through my firnst scarf, hopefully its finished before the winter sets in! We both have a day off on Thursday so going to road trip somewhere, probably Cranbrook which is only an hour away.
Only a week on Saturday till hot and sunny Florida!!
