The bus journey from Paraty to Sau Paulo was actually ok, it left at 11.30pm and we got into sau paulo bus station at 4.30am. The bus was comfortable and seemed to go pretty quickly. When we got there we bought another ticket to get to Curitiba, and the next one was at 7am so we had a couple of hours to wait. We got on the bus, which was a little less comfy than the last one but it was ok. We got into Curitiba about 2.00pm, and went to find somewhere to stay. We ended up staying in a formula one hotel, which was fine and it was near the bus station as we had an early start the next day. We had a wander around curitiba, it wasnt very nice to be honest, just a big city. Apparently it has a lot of German influence and there was a big beer hall there, and we looked for it but couldnt find it. we had an early night and got up the next day to take the train to Morretes. The train was sooo slow, and a little uninteresting for the first 2 hours, but the last hour was amazing. We were up on the mountainside and had a beautiful view of mountains, forests and waterfalls. We got into Morretes about 11.30am and the owners of the pousada (b&b) were waiting for us to take us there. We stopped at the supermarket before we went so that we could make our dinner and buy some drinks otherwise we would have to take the bus to town to go to a restaurant. The place was great, it was in the middle of two towns, about 9km out and in the rainforest. There were two other cabins there, but we didnt see anyone else. The weather started to look a bit grim so we just chilled on the hammock on our deck, cooked dinner (steak and potatoes) and played cards all night. The owners had 3 dogs, one of which (Chico) was with us all the time!
The next day we woke up and our hosts brought us a lovely breakfast on our deck, there was far too much food! We also saw a snake that morning but the owner said it wasnt poisonous! After breakfast we went to explore the town of Morretes and Antonina. The evening was the same, cards and food and drinks! We woke to another breakfast again and then the owners took us down to Morretes bus station so that we could get the bus back to Curitiba. The bus only took an hour and a half and we were able to get a bus to Florianopolis within 15 minutes so we didnt have to wait at all. This bus took 6 hours and we arrived at Florianopolis at 7.15. we hadnt booked anything and didnt really know where we should stay so we asked at information and they gave us a whole bunch of leaflets for different hostels. we picked one we thought looked quite nice and jumped on a bus which should take about 20 minutes. The traffic was terrible and the journey took an hour and a half! we walked a bit to find thehostel, but they were full so they directed us to another hostel called submarino. it was a good thing though, because this one was much better than the one we saw before and we had a really nice time here, the owners were brilliant, it was run by 2 sisters and a brother. we met lots of people here, and on saturday night we went out to a club with them - the bus left for the club at 11pm and came back at 5am, but we survived! We went to a beach, and had a wander around the town, jack sniffed out a pub that was showing football, but they werent playing the fulham game so we watched arsenal newcastle which was a good game. We met 2 people from London and 1 from Germany who were all going to Guarda do Embau (where we are now) so we decided to tag along with them and we are glad we did, this place is really nice. We have met some nice locals who work at our hotel who have been showing us round different beaches and giving us advice. Weve been drinking a lot of Caipirinhas and beer, and there is lots of live music here. the beach is gorgeous and you have to cross a river to get there so you either swim or get punted on a boat! The people we met, Alex, Sebastian and Josh have left now but we are staying an extra couple of days and going to Porto Alegre tomorrow to meet with our friends we met in New Zealand, Alex and Will.
