Day 14 - Memphis to Nashville
Goodbye to Memphis and on our way to Nashville today for a dose of different music.
Unfortunately it's freeway all the way until we drop off just before Nashvillle to visit The Loveless Cafe. The cafe is a bit of an institution and gets really busy but fortunately we arrive just after the lunch rush and have a nice country ham and eggs with home style potatoes (bacon, egg and chips).
The scenery has changed quite dramatically from the flatlands of Mississippi and is much nicer. This area also appears more affluent than Memphis and a lot cleaner, not sure why.
Traffic around Nashville is busy as we hit it early evening after the usual call at Walmart for water, beer and wine. Nice hotel at Best Western Suites near Opryland.
Don't both going into town tonight but eat local.
Day 15 - Nashville
The drive into Nashville is nice and easy and the Nashville skyline is superb with what appears to be a Batman tower as the centrepiece.
City centre is quite hilly and the Columbus river which cuts through it is in a kind of gorge. Nashville Titans stadium is right across the river and looks really good.
We were told that The District is the place for live music and that's an understatement! Bars, bars and more bars all with live acts on and there doesn't appear to be a bad one any where.
The whole atmosphere of the area is excellent and reall safe feeling as well as really clean.
Had to visit the Johnny Cash museum and it lived up to expectations as he's probably my favourite country singer.
Popped into a bar in Broadway called Robert's Honky Tonk with a superb act on called Silver Threads. This was about 2:30 and it was packed.
Early tea on the way home then booked a taxi for Friday night in Partytown!
If we thought it was busy in the day we were mistaken, the place is wall to wall people. Needed the bathroom so nipped back into Robert's and we didn't leave!
Managed to snag a table, there was a different act on but still rocking. The area is so busy it wasn't worth moving so we stayed put. It REALLY started to fill up about 10:30 but not too unpleasant.
When we left to catch our shuttle back at 11:30 there were queues outside of about 50 people. 1 out, 1 in.
Great night, great music, great city (again)
