Day 4 Montgomery to New Orleans
Up early for the long drive to New Orleans.
We're using the Interstate today as it will take us a good few hours to get there.
Not the best of drives with not a lot to see really for the major part of the journey.
Talked to a few people when we had break and everybody was really friendly and polite.
The girls were doing a crossword In the back of the car.
Kath - begins with N, 4 letters, part on the body?
Rose - Knob?
Kath - no, it can't be knob! --------- but it might be knee
Priceless!
The last hour or so of the drive we hit the bayou and crossed Lake Pochetrain so the higher way was on stilts for miles with a great bridge into town.
Checked in and headed downtown on the bus.
Bourbon St is ram jam packed with bars and clubs and people.
I think we're getting too old for this malarkey.
Thought we'd got to Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell, but a torrential downpour drove us into a bar for sustenance.
Jambalaya and Cajun chicken
Watered and fed the weary travellers retired to their beds.
Day 5 - The Big Easy
Headed into town for our first look at Ole Man River in the daylight.
Big!
Spotted the riverboat Natchez and decided we will have a trip tomorrow.
Sightseeing and touristy stuff today including beignets at The Cafe De Monde (tick it off the list)
Lots of buskers and street artists about
French quarter is very pretty, must have been fantastic 50 years or so ago.
Had lunch in a bar called Coop's we spotted on trip advisor and it was good.
First try at Gumbo and not disappointed.
Got the bus out to an area called the Garden District and it's very trendy. Might have an explore here tomorrow.
We must have walked miles today and with the heat and humidity an earlier night was in order.
