Today is our last day in Ko Samui and is also Thai new year (songkran). This basically means that they all go crazy throwing water all over everyone in their path. They also use massive water blasters and throw some sort of powder all over everyone too. Everyone is out on the street, chucking water or riding around motorbikes or in utes joining in the fun. It also very noisy as there is loud music on just about every corner. Everyone seems to join in- young and old all having the time of their life.
Around lunch time there was a massive thunderstorm, with very heavy rain for half an hour or so. It cleared up again soon after. We went for our last swim here and then had to start packing for our flight to Singapore.
It usually only takes about 20 minutes or so to get to the airport and we thought we had left with plenty of time as we allowed about 45 minutes, but because of Songkran, it took about an hour to get through the traffic, and we just made it to check in. But on arriving at the gate we then found out that the flight was delayed half an hour anyway.
I also discovered today that all the posts I had put on Facebook for the trip had not gone through as it was locked somehow and although they were showing up on my page nobody else could see them. So annoying, and I was wondering why I had not even got one like or comment for any of them!!! I had sent a few private messages which had worked and I had replies from them so didn't figure out the problem until now. Stupid Facebook!! When we get to Singapore I will see if I can figure out a way to send the old posts.
We are on the plane now and have just had our meal, should arrive there in about half an hour or so......
It is now 9.15 pm. We are in our very tiny hotel room - we have been so spoilt the past week with our very spacious house and outside living areas. So this little room really feels quite claustrophobic to us. It is not even the size of the master bedroom in the Ko Samui house and we are almost tripping over the cases as there is nowhere to put them. Most of the hotels in Singapore seem to have very small rooms.
We had a bit of a drama when we arrived here also. When we arrived at the airport we changed our last baht into SGD. - $55 which was enough for tonight, the taxi cost $25 SGD. We will change more tomorrow. But when we arrived here at the hotel, reception said that we had cancelled our booking and were not coming till May. Well that was obviously news to us!! She went off to try to fix the problem and about 10 minutes later comes back and gives us the card for our room on the 7th floor. We go up, open the door and find that the room is occupied by someone else, there's clothes and cases in the room- so lucky the people weren't there, it could have been very embarrassing!!! So back down to reception with the luggage guy, and after many apologies given another room, now on the 9th floor, which makes it a club room, including cocktails and breakfast. We are now not sure if they will be included but will try our luck, she also gave us a late 6pm checkout for Sunday which will be good as our flight does not leave until 9pm. So after all the kerfuffle maybe it will be a bit of a win for us!!
