Up and up and up to Castelmola and then down and down and down to Taormina!!!

This morning we decided to walk to the village high up above us...Castelmola. There is a path which winds its way up the mountain. It is very steep, the village is on a cliff top above the apartment. When we arrived up there we looked around the village and then had lunch at one of the restaurants.

After lunch we walked back down to the apartment and sat on the balcony with a glass of wine. We then set off in the other direction to Taormina. The apartment is on top of the hill on a very windy road the sea. To get to town you can take one of the many steps and pathways that wind back down to the city. It takes about 12 minutes to get down all the steps. We then wandered around the city for a few hours. Wow! The place was absolutely crazy, people everywhere! Especially the beautiful people!! Everyone, it seems, in Taormina gets sooo dressed up to go into town, especially as it was a Saturday night. Quite the place to be seen! All the women in their very upmarket dresses and high heel shoes. Men in their suits. Some looked really great, and then others were so overdone it was quite ridiculous, with outrageous clothes and makeup etc. And the weddings.... So many weddings... After the wedding the bridal couple parade up and down the streets and take photos. Must have seen at least 10 bridal couples. As I said, Saturday night, so obviously that would not be the norm for other nights. Anyway I was feeling quite underdressed in my thongs!! We then went back to the steps for the journey home... Or so we thought! We took the wrong path in the dark as it happens. So our 25 minutes or so up the steps became 45 minutes by the time we found our way back to the right path! Forget the 1000 steps- I think we did at least 5000 steps to get back! After all this walking and uphill at that, I should have lost heaps!!! But probably not likely!!
