The Blue Mountains was a good escape from City life for the day. It was so quiet that during the times that we weren't talking between ourselves, you would probably have heard a pin drop. We took the 2 hour train journey from (Sydney) Central to Katoomba up in the Blue Mountains. We got a return for the cost of 10.90 dollars. This for a total of a four hour journey was the biggest bargain I've found in Australia so far (until we were to pay the same price from Sydney to Newcastle that was). Who needs to pay extortionate prices for a tour guide when you can do it all on your own at your own pace for that price eh? So many people seem to do the Blue Mountains tour and then they come back often not being overly impressed. I can only advise to actually look into doing it yourself as you can do it at your own pace and have no one telling you that you have to leave at a specific time or walk this way, or walk that way etc.
During our day trip here, we went up to the famous three Sisters, and we looked at the very steep views from the top. There were some exceptional views and the camera went into overload with multiple pictures of rocks, waterfalls and cables cars going straight across the national park. There was a crazy steep gradient of steps on our way at some point (which were only meant to be attempted by experienced hikers), and after the day of walking, I wouldn't have being sad if I didn't have to climb another flight of steps anytime soon. There was a fair bit mud in what looked like a jungle during our trek, and it was evident from early on, that I should have worn black trainers, and I need not have$ bothered to polish my white ones and then wear them. At least I did not wear flip flops like one of our friends was going to do. Some people were going a bit too close to the cliff edge and practically dangling off the cliff, but I chose to be sensible and not do this. Two minutes later I was walking along and me being the clumsy person I am tripped up. It seemed at the point; it was an incredibly wise decision not to risk dangling off a cliff edge just for one photo opportunity.
The Blue Mountains were very nice, don't get me wrong, but I don't really understand why they get as much positive publicity as they do to be honest. I would take a guess that it is because it is the closest 'country' thing to Sydney, and with Sydney being a big bustling city, country sort of stuff is sparse, so with it being the nearest thing 'country' thing to Sydney, it is over hyped ever so slightly. I don't think I did a great job at explaining that did I? After been in the city though for just over 5 days, it was such a contrast going 2 hours out into the mountains.
Having said all I have about the Blue Mountains, I only did visit Katoomba which is the biggest town in the Blue Mountains, so maybe there was a lot more to see.
