Today we hit the road for Jaipur.... We were all really looking forward to visiting the pink city as we had heard wonderful things about it.... It's a seven hour bus ride from Delhi and that flew past. We passed numerous small villages and the journey was fun... Loads to see and I was very snappy with the camera. India is just like I imagined with its stunning bright colours everywhere. We would be driving through the vast expanse of country side but would always see hints of fuchsia pink and turquoise from the local ladies saris dotted throughout the green farms and sandy roads... Stunning! I also loved the way all the trucks were decorated. They don't have big printed pictures on their trucks... Everything is hand painted and looks amazing, reminds me very much of the style of Edward Hopper who is one of my favourite artists. Everything seems so clean, crisp and incredibly bright and colourful.
When we arrived in Jaipur we booked in to our hotel... The room was lovely! Pool view and a marble bathroom, not how I pictured our accommodation travelling. On arrival we were given a welcome drink and a beautiful flower necklace, it smelt amazing! Bright orange in colour and made of flower heads... Similar to carnations breaded like a daisy chain, for a short moment I felt like I was about to start an all-inclusive holiday. We looked around the hotel a little as it was quite big and very stunning... Marble everywhere and amazing paintings. We found a sari shop and had a look inside, I saw a bright fuchsia colour Punjabi suit and fell in love... The price was two thousand rupees... Approximately twenty four pounds. The guy said he would make it in two hours after being measured but as we were going on our orientation tour we said we'd return later.
The orientation tour took us down the main shopping market and around the old walled city of Jaipur ...we took rickshaws, the pedalled kind and wow it was bumpy! I wouldn't want to do one again ha-ha... Bit too tall for them I would say. The walk was busy... Lots of people and lots of craziness, the place is pretty though and a lot cleaner then Delhi. We walked past the flower stalls that sell beautiful flower chain necklaces... And the guy gave us a rose and a jasmine necklace, was very sweet! We also went to the top of one of the buildings to admire the view fully ...we could see the local guys taking down the Diwali decorations, they have scaffolding made of bamboo and lots of different coloured ribbons tied to it! Was quite cool.
Later we headed in town for dinner at a nice Indian restaurant and the food was lovely... Steven had a mutton rogan josh which was really spicy but the mutton was on the bone which I don't like... I had goat curry and it was amaaaaazing! Really spicy and very tasty, I also had garlic naan with it and a nice rice. Once we were finished we headed back to the hotel and sat by the pool and had some local Indian rum and kingfisher beer! It was so nice chilling by the pool and relaxing... It was also nice to chat and get to know the group a bit more. After a very long day we finally headed to the shower and it was amazing... then bed.... Shattered!
