Laura felt pretty rotten today when she woke up and that was probably to do with the amount of walking we did yesterday considering her Bad chest. We packed up our things and again tried to fill ourselves on the buffet breakfast. We checked out and left our bags to go check out a couple more sights before we departed Macau at lunchtime. The first sight, meridian's house was frustratingly closed on Wednesday even though there was guard sitting outside which seemed a bit pointless us.... If he's sat there all day then while nit just let people in! So we headed up Barra hill to where a beautiful church was located overlooking the South Island. There appeared to be some models having a photo shoot in wedding dresses and prom gowns and was quite random. After this we headed back to the hotel and picked up our belongings and made the most of the free shuttles to the ferry terminal. The big hotels put on the buses so we found one nearby and just hopped on... proper freeloading style. It was in one of the poshest resorts and we didn't look out of place at all with our backpacks haha... The ferry back across was a bumpy affair and made Laura, who was feeling quite rotten by now feel quite nauseous, causing her to throw up more than once ...luckily she survived the one hour crossing.
On arrival back in Hong Kong we made the walk across town to our hostel located in the 'mansions'. There are two in Hong Kong one called Chungking and the other Mirador (the one we stayed in). Basically, these are tower blocks with private accommodation littered with various hostels on the many floors. There are shops on the ground floor around the lifts with people trying to sell you handbags and tailoring (as if I look like I need a suit with my backpack). You have to wait ages for the lifts as they stop on nearly every floor so coming in and our can be a nightmare. The area has a bit f a reputation and Laura wasn't keen on staying here... But it's after arriving we could see that its actually very well situated right in the hub of the town.
We checked in and found out our deluxe room had no window... course not, why would it. We said we would pay more for one that did and in the end we were very glad we paid that little extra (only about £4 extra a night). The room we originally booked was in the USA hostel on the thirteenth floor but we were upgraded the fourteenth floor to a room with a window in a different hostel... our new digs being called 'The Venetian' haha how ironic! It's the only venetian hotel we could afford. it was a twin room and very small, there was not a lot of room for moving around but it was clean, bright and quiet... a lot more than we hoped for. The en suite bathroom had a shower that seemed to be falling off the wall and you had to stand between the sink and toilet which if you were rather large you would struggle... It did however have hot water! The window was very big and did gave a fantastic view of Nathan road and did seem to give the room the feeling of more space. We settled in for the afternoon and Laura slept for a short while before our dinner with Bianca this evening, Laura's friend she has not seen for 18 years.
Laura was feeling rotten on waking but was determined not to let it spoil the evening. We located the restaurant called 'empire city roasted duck' in a shopping mall nearby and looking at the menu we knew it more classy than we had been used to the past couple of weeks. We waited for a while and maybe thought we had got the wrong place or night as there was no 19:30 booking under Bianca. Then to our relief Bianca showed up with her husband Ed and we all sat down for our meal. It was strange because we all started talking like we had been together for ages, it was strange but really nice. Ed and Bianca ordered as we did not know what to get and they have been here a few times... There was the half duck with pancakes, dumplings, vegetable dishes etc, followed by pumpkin soup and little yellow bird cakes served in a bird cage.
Bianca then pulled out a neat little Polaroid camera that takes little pictures with different themed backgrounds and took some snaps. Then to our surprise Bianca had bought a camera for Laura as a gift!! It was amazing and very generous. On top of that, Ed came back from the toilet and said he had settled the bill, we felt bad but very fortunate that both of them were so generous!! After a good chat, which involved convincing us to relocate to Hong Kong (of which i was sold pretty quickly) and about what we have been doing these past years we walked down to the harbour at night and checked out the old police station which looked very pretty at night. I did notice at this point at black stain on Laura's dress which turned out to be caused by getting it caught in an escalator!! Before we said our goodbyes, Ed and Bianca offered for us to stay with them for a few nights when we arrive back from Japan. We gratefully accepted the offer and it is something we are both really looking forward to. A few hours wasn't enough for the girls to catch up and it would be nice to see them again. After that lovely evening we all headed home and parted ways but it will only be 2 weeks before we are reunited.
