We awoke early on the train after a very restless night... I had spent most of the night trying to muffle my cough and in the end went out of the compartment to try and clear my chest with a lot of loud coughing. We arrived at about seven am and it was already a nice temperature so we all instantly felt brighter. We left the train station and jumped on a subway train to a hotel in the town... Here we went to the bathroom and freshened up while William sorted the ferry tickets. We then waited a little while for the private bus to take us the one and a half hours to the ferry terminal.
On arriving we boarded the hydrofoil boat to Hong Kong. The journey took about two hours during which time we chilled and read our books. On arriving in Kowloon, Hong Kong we departed and were all thankful to see the sun and feel its warmth, everyone was now in a brighter mood. We jumped in a taxi and headed to the hotel where we were given one hour for a quick shower and freshen. The hotel was lovely with free wifi and UK style plug sockets... Plus we had he coolest rain shower ever... Could have stayed in there all day. They also had scales so I weighed myself for the first time in a month and found I Had lost 6kg... Although I don't think this was too accurate...
We met in reception and took a walk through the streets f Kowloon to find somewhere to have lunch... I wasn't hungry but sat with the others while they enjoyed a dumpling lunch and I sipped a jasmine green tea. Steven had hot and spicy soup followed by ten pork fried dumplings which he enjoyed immensely and he vowed to return here. We then set off for an orientation walk.... We finished at the harbour and were given free time and told to meet back at the hotel after the light show at nine o clock for our farewell dinner.
The views on Victoria harbour were amazing but it was quite misty today and Victoria peak was not clearly visible in the backdrop. As we both knew we are coming back here we decided not to gamble going up the peak and not seeing anything. We walked around the shopping districts which included all the classics for a modest travellers budget such as Cartier and Louis Vuitton. Of course Laura spotted the Tiffany's which would get a visit later. We stopped at a bar after much certain with Glen and Blair and realised that drinks in Hong Kong were not cheap at all, luckily it was happy hour so we got a discount. The beer went down well and we decided to head for walk back through the shops and of course Tiffany's.... Laura tried on some massive diamonds and then asked about the price ...she was discussing them as if we were going to buy one there and then.... I had started sweating by that point and we promptly retreated. Laura was on a high at that point and now Hong Kong was in darkness and the island lit up majestically with all the skyscrapers. We headed back to the hotel for a bit of relaxation and check our emails. On arriving I discovered that the iPad would not switch on..... panic started. I tried everything but nothing worked and I was thinking I have no receipt and can't exactly go home get it and to top it all no-one knew where an apple store was. Nothing could be done the evening and we headed back down to the harbour for the light show.
The harbour promenade was filling with people and we met up Glen and Blair who were waiting for us in quite a decent viewing spot. The light show lasted about 20 minutes and involved laser lights from various buildings synchronised to different pieces of music. It was very pretty but me and Laura both agreed a bit underwhelming... it may have been the constant thought of the iPad being broken and what a nightmare it may turn out to be and Laura was still high from the 4.5 carat he ha tried on earlier...
We headed back to the hotel for 9pm where William took us to local Cantonese restaurant for the farewell dinner. It was various courses such as duck (not very nice), chicken, pork, beef (very tender), fish, prawns and some accompanying vegetable dishes. It was ok but we both felt not worth the price tag we paid. Us four said good bye to rest of the group as Laura looked like she was about to keel over and headed back to the hotel where we had to say the goodbyes to Glen and Blair. We had grown very close to them and could tell we would like to remain friends for a long time. They were taking our India SD cards back with them and Laura was acting like an anxious paren when handing them over. We would see them and our SD cards again soon when we touchdown in Melbourne in May .
