G'day mates. How ya goin? We've had a great week touring Northern Queensland. We've spent time out on the Great Barrier Reef as well as in the neighboring rainforest areas. The reef is simply amazing. The diversity of sea life is incredible. We saw lots of beautiful fish and coral. The highlight was seeing a giant sea turtle. I was within a couple of meters of it when it came up for air. Very impressive!
As Rob had mastered driving on the left (he only occasionally turns on the wipers instead of the signal lights) we used his talents to tour the neighboring areas. We made a couple of trips into the Daintree National Rainforest. The lush forest borders the coastline and it's gorgeous. Fortunately we only encountered one rain storm, but boy did it rain. We also toured the Atherton Tablelands which level out further in land. They also offered impressive views at every turn. We completed several bush walks (hikes) in both areas.
We've seen plenty of birds and a couple of snakes (fortunately both sleeping a reasonable distance away). While touring on the Daintree River we kept an eye out for 'crocs' but didn't see any. Rob is also still on a quest to see a kangaroo - no worries there's plenty of ground to cover to find one of those.
The weather has been hot and very humid. Lows of 26C are the norm and highs of 34C are not uncommon. Sometimes I think I will melt! To top it off all the stores here are selling UGG boots too! Fortunately we haven't seen anyone wearing them.
We're heading down the coast in the morning. While it will be hard to leave this tropical paradise I'm sure new adventures await.

Jack Excellent, everything sounds brilliant ... did you do any scuba or snorkelling on the reef? Warm, windy and dry here today. Maybe you should get Rob to wear some ugg's.
rosalind Great to get your news. Sounds fantastic!! Will share with Isabel . Going there for supper tonight. Rosalind and Bill
Sheila Sorry Jack I tried to get Rob to try the UGGs but no luck - not even with the sandle style! We did some snorkelling and are planning more for tomorrow.
Denise Wow it sounds like you had a great time in Northern Queensland. It looks like the reef didn't disappoint and I'm glad you drove to the Daintree. It really is a beautiful area. Good luck with spotting kangaroos Rob. if you don't see any I'll take you to the zoo to see some when you return. Stay safe!
Brenda Thanks for sharing your adventures... I'm sure you have already had many experiences that is your 'new' favorite... until your next 'new favorite'... I wish for you a fantastic memory of all the neat things you are doing... you may need to tap into that well of memories when you arrive home in the spring... nothing new here.... Ken and I had a chuckle reading about the windshield wiper thing... he had that same problem in the Caribbean! Maybe folks don't honk quite the same in Australia... or hopefully view stop signs as more than a suggestion where you are! Take care.... carry on!
Trish and Paul Your beautiful pictures of sun, sand, surf and water are making us envious back here in cold and wintery Calgary, where high winds seem to be our biggest problem at the moment. Sounds delightful! Cherrio...
Wade & Teresa It sounded like a great trip when you were planning it. From your blog it even sounds better in reality. Glad you are having a good time & only one day of rain. Interesting how that right-drive thing has to have the wiper switch where normally signals are. Tough life in the heat and the peril of melting when we are tryuing to find more layers ot put on. Sports here is dull, BC won GreyCup and Flames keep on win 1 lose 1. The CIty Budget got approved and no one is happy with the 6% tax increase. However most are gearing up for Christmas and lights are coming out around the City and it seems that we will have a festive season. We are spending Christmas in Calgary, just our immediate family. Tyler is finding some work in northern Alberta, but not quite as much as he thought as he does not have enough experience on welding pipe and it is catch 22 as how do get more experience on pipe if you can't get a job welding pipe (oh well all part of running a business). Curtis will be home from Australia on Dec 5th so Teresa is very excited. Keep having a great time and posting your adventures.
Rudy and Donna Hello, Thanks for the updates. Sounds like you guys are having a blast, loved the driving story about the wipers, heck I do that every once in a while in my own car. The heat does sound like a bit much I must admit. Stay hydrated.
Cheryl Enjoy the heat and think of us shovelling snow. We had our first blizzard yesterday! Great to hear of your adventures. Keep them coming!
