We are currently anchoring out at Offatts Bayou in Galveston, Texas. We have been here for 8 days trying to relax and regroup before we take off again down the Intercoastal Waterway. We have weathered two Northers the past week with 30 miles per hour winds. It was really scarry!!!! Pam slept with pillows over her head
Seve also had to work on the engine while we are here. The fuel injection pump was leaking a little, so he's working on it.
Its interesting being here in Galveston... It was really trashed by Ike! Destruction everywhere, sailboats up on lawns, on top of cars, and in apartment buildings. Hopefully our anchor isn't snagged in a sunken one...
We are getting good at getting our dingy and outboard on and off Zephia. And then dingying to shore. We have the routine down. At first it was hard to find a place to tie up the dingy that would be safe. But now we've made friends with a guy and tie up our dingy at his place. The other day we carried diesel from a gas station that was eight blocks away. Not much fun!
Things can be pretty rough, but we are finding some things to be optomistic about. It will be good when we get back on the road. Unfortunately our first day will include crossing the Houston ship channel and then going through the worst part of the hurricane destruction and trying to find a place to anchor. No end to the excitment!
We'll probably be leaving this weekend or early next week.
