1. Living opposite central markets & chinatown (and all the foody and cultural implications of this). I could not have wished for a better location to live.

2. Work colleagues. At both my jobs. Of course there are always people you don't get on with, but alongside those and more than making up for them are some really fantastic people who I have had a brilliant time and a lot of fun working with and whom I will miss when I leave.

3. The barge. Okay, so the guy I worked for was a bit of a chauvenistic power-hungry tyrant, but it was an experience that I would never otherwise have had and I do not regret it! I got to see a 12,500tonne barge being used to test a new rolls royce-owned shiplift and to witness the "heaviest ever lift in the southern hemisphere". I also got to wear a hardhat and fluorescent jacket and drive around in a truck with a flashing light on the roof!

4. People that live here, who love to live here and are so easygoing and appreciative of little things in life. People that randomly smile at you in the street, that say sorry when they bump into you and that let each other cut into queues. People that are living here simply because they love to live here and would not rather be anywhere other than South Australia.

5. Architecture. Old and grand and beautiful and regal, pleasingly English.

6. Standing in the middle of the CBD and being able to see the hills at the end of the streets. Due to the very regular and straight-roaded street-plan, and the pleasingly small yet perfectly formed nature of the centre of the city.

7. A handful of people that I met at a group I attended fortnightly, who accepted and welcomed me. I got so much from them and hope I gave some back.

8. Almost continuous sunshine. Okay, so it WAS summer and there was the occasional cloudy day, but days on days on days of hot and sunshine and waking up and not having to look out the window to know that shorts, a vest and flipflops would be perfectly suited. Never having to worry that I might need a jumper or brolly, learning the lesson that it's cooler inside when you keep the window SHUT!

9. My jobs, both of them. Although I am weary of hospitality in general, of all the places I have worked in my life, these two were the best. Poles apart in terms of the niches they fill, but both spot-on at what they do. Both places that I have been proud to work there, of the venue, the food, the service and my colleagues and I don't think I've ever been able to say that about any other employer.

10. Although I have not participated directly in most of the events that have taken place here, I love that Adelaide is such a vibrant and eclectic city. In the short time that I have been here, this small city (which many refer to as an "overgrown country town") has hosted: The Tour Down Under, Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, The Big Day Out, Womadelaide, Soundwave festival, Clipsal V8 Supercar Race and ACDC in concert. Not to mention numerous other concerts and performances, theatre, sporting events (20twenty cricket in the Adelaide Oval), the Adelaide Zoo's welcoming two giant pandas from China, which caused (a somewhat bemusing level of) great excitement.

In sum... Adelaide is Heaps Good, imo.
