This morning we got up around 9am as today is Neighbours set tour day! The welsh couple left before this so we are left with the three Canadians and the Dutch guy. All hilarious.
We were ready for the scheduled 9.30am pick up but no bus came! We went to the travel desk and it turns out although they'd printed the booking form the other day they hadn't actually booked it in through the company! Luckily there was space on the 11am departure but from Flinders Street in town which meant we had time for a quick cuppa and croissant before leaving. The weather was pretty cold again today but luckily the rain held off til after the tour.
Our tour guide was called Gerry and he was Irish and knew everything to do with Neighbours!! It took about 30 minutes for us to get to the set. Apparently it used to be the studios for the whole of a network and now it is dedicated solely to Neighbours! It's massive! We drove past various buildings and Gerry pointed out that by using different camera angles they use the same buildings for more than one thing. For example one was used as the school, hospital and a car park.
We drove further and got out at the shops. We saw the burger place and garage along with a few others. Then Saskia (a fairly new cast member) came round and told us a bit about working for the show and gave us time for autographs and pictures. It was good but we had been praying for Karl or Harold :(
We then drove on to 'Ramsey Street'. It is actually really small in real life! Only 6 houses in one cul de sac! The people that live there are paid about 30,000 Australian dollars a year to put up with it! All they need to do is move their cars on filming days and put blinds up in their house! The houses are numbered 1-6 but for filming they put up a number in front to make it the twenties!
We had some pictures then headed back to town. By this point it was pouring so we got the tram home and went to one of the amazing cake shops for a cuppa and cake. We then had a wander down the street and back to the hostel where we snuggled up in bed for a bit...knackered!
The Canadians were all being loud, but hilarious, but we got a bit of sleep. I then did my washing before we got a subway!!
