Bastille day fireworks came a day early to Nimes to our surprise, as we had asked for a room overlooking the roman amphitheatre which is the centre of the fireworks display. We had absolutely front row seats for the spectacle which Matthew and Oliver loved. This topped off our second night in Nimes which has turned out to be a far more interesting city than Geoff or I had anticipated. NOTE This is not a post for our kindergarten friends, we will post later today with our holiday news. Some terribly sad news on the morning that we left Chamonix, they had the deadliest summer avalanche ever on Mount Blanc, with 9 climbers lost. 12 climbers were rescued from the avalanche and 2 are still missing. It is very sobering as you wonder how many of the people we observed on Mt Blanc the previous day were caught up in the tragedy.
