After securing my job the previous day, I decided the first course of action would be to find somewhere to live more permanently in Brisbane. After looking around various places on gumtree, it became apparent that very few places would be much cheaper than the hostel I was already staying at. I contacted only one house to arrange a viewing, set for the morning of 1 July.
I woke up early and prepared to head out towards the suburb of Windsor. Pleased to see a sunny day outside, I was eager to head out. I caught the train towards Windsor from Roma Street station, off the platform I normally get to go to work. However, the trains seemed to run less frequently as after the station at Bowen Hills the train forks and only some trains go to Windsor.
I managed to arrive a little bit early, and walked around to see the house that I'd organised to view. The house was nice enough however the owner was retired and would've made a very unusual housemate! I decided against moving in there!
After leaving the house, I decided I would spend the rest of the day exploring Brisbane as it was such a beautiful day. I headed down towards the suburb of Tenerife, which had been mentioned to me by a co-worker at my new job. At Tenerife there is a jetty to catch the city cat. Unlike the slower ferries that shuttle people between the CBD the city cats go all the way to the suburbs of Brisbane.
I found this to be a great way of seeing the major suburbs of Brisbane, and to get an idea of where might make a nice place to live. In particular, the suburbs of Hawthorne and Hamilton look rather nice. I will have to do some digging and discover more about them.
I took quite a few pictures, however about three quarters the way through my journey the battery on my phone died, a problem I'm encountering more and more frustratingly. I missed the final leg of the journey in photos and so I decided I had to come back another day in order to catch it.
I caught the City cat all the way back to Southbank. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey, and proceeded to walk back to the hostel. On the way back, I decided that I was not going to make myself be in such a rush to find somewhere to live. The hostel I am staying in is very nice and has good resources. In particular I can use it as a base to organise trips to other places, and since it is on the main line towards the train station for Bowen Hills it is also reasonably located.
