After the crazy night previous, we had consumed a mental amount of alcohol. We didn't crash out till about 5:30am, and we were all completely out of it. This meant that we were all absolutely trashed out until about lunch time on the 7th. Lauren didn't even go to bed until 8am (something I was very impressed at - hardcore loz!).
Eventually, myself, Stu and Jess dragged ourself out of bed at roughly 12:30pm. Thankfully we had no pressing deadlines for things to do, simply that we needed to rent a car that day. Before arriving out here, myself and Scott had done some research on the prices of car rentals - the result being that as there was 5 of us it would be rather cheap to rent a car for the time the guys were over.
We set off at about 1:30, in search of some car rental places. We eventually ended up at the Brisbane Transit Information centre. The guy at the desk was very helpful, phone around for us in order to get quotes for cars around the city. He said that unfortunately, as it was a bank holiday in Queensland, car rental prices were severely inflated, and availability was minimal.
Eventually he got us a quote for a v6 Mitsubishi from a rental place south of the city in a suburb called 'Woolloongabba'. We reserved the car and set off to the forecourt on Brisbanes bus services. It was only then we realised that Brisbane actually almost completely hides public transport from street level. The city has an extensive underground transport network of bus and train terminals. We travelled all the way to the forecourt, only seeing street level at the last bit of the journey.
Upon arrival at the forecourt, I was somewhat less than impressed. Quite honestly, the place looked like a salvage yard, and was mostly full of campervans which had been spray painted with the word 'Wicked' and various other graphics. Still, by this point it was too late to turn back, we needed the car and couldnt realistically afford much else.
We signed the documentation and were shown the car, a v6 Mitsubish Mirage which had been spray painted with a rather large revolver on one side and a large rose on the other. We inspected the car, and then I got in the drivers seat and drove it away. It was an automatic, which I had little experience driving, but it handled pretty well and we got back to the hostel in no time. For the rest of the day, we simply mulled around the hostel, playing pool in the evening.
