We arrived in the Evening at Honolulu on the island of Oahu, most people were met with garlands we were a bit jealous. After deperately and last minute booking our accomodation from Anchorage we caught the shuttle bus into Waikiki to stay at the surf dude hang out, beachside hostal Hokondo. We had a double room but there was a guy in the dorm bit next to us asleep with the tv blasting out, luckily we were tired enough to crash out straight away. The next day we booked onto the free bus to the North to the backpackers inn at the three tables beach. We had a few hours so went for a stroll on the beach, not that great, fake manmade narrow beach, good for people watching though. The ride to the north shore was fun, old hippie bloke took us, past pineapple plantations. The dorm was a three story wooden house opposite the beach, nice and friendly. We bought sushi and salad from the supermarket.....ahh the joy of healthy food after alaska. and ate it by the beach. We spent the rest of the day on the beach then got a roast chicken from the shop and had a nice meal on the veranda, met our house mates, two very quiet shy chinese/ameriacan guys. Oh and an odd woman with a child that freaked claire out as she suddenly appeared (pretty sure off her head) and asked if she could hang out. The next day it was raining, we hired snorkelling gear though after a coffee from starbucks and some cereal, and spent the day on the beach. Great fun snorkelling apparently there were turtles but we didnt see any. That night we got dressed up and went to town for a lovely meal and watched the most amazing sunset with our Mai Tais and got a bit drunk on coctails, got the last bus (9:30pm) back. At the bus stop there were a bunch of drunkered homeless hippies, one of whom was dancing naked and showing his arse to the traffic. A nice lad on the bus gave us some money as we didnt have the right change to get back. On the last day we caught the shuttle back to Waikiki to spend the day there before our midnight flight to Fiji. We left our bags at the beachside hostel, and went to town. We got our films put ontop cd from denali, and had lunch. We went to Perry Smorgys restaurant and all you can eat, really god salads and fruit etc. We then went to the international market and bought some funny souvenirs for the parents. We did some tinternet to pas the time then went off to catch our flight....
