The last few days have been spent walking the length and breadth of Cape Town and discovering the 'Long Street' where we are based is indeed a particularly long street. Table Mountain has been covered in an undulating cloth of cloud for much of our time here but we were lucky enough to find a clear day in which to attempt the trek up to the top. We are finding ourselves increasingly unfit and the walk was a little taxing, however the views from the top were simply fabulous and well worth it. It was surprising that when walking along the top it was to a continuous chorus of frog song, it shows how wet it gets up there.
In the evenings we have been cooking for ourselves to keep the costs down but then have been going to restaurants where there has been live music for desert and a beer! Certainly a tradition to continue when we return home as it beats a night in front of the T.V
We met up with a lovely couple, Claire and Johnny, who we have met in a few countries along the way, for a couple of drinks one evening which unsurprisingly turned into more than a couple! Whatever was in those 'voodoo' cocktails certainly had a kick to it. It was good to see them again.
A trip to Cape Town cannot be complete without a trip to the winelands and this weekend we took the train out Stellenbosch with the aim of quenching our thirst with plenty of wine and cheese sampling. We were not disappointed. The wine got better and better throughout the day and the cheese was a bit of a highlight. Our wine tasting skills unfortunately weren't enhanced much beyond telling the difference between a red and a white and knowing which wines we liked and disliked. Ah, well, I suppose that's why we will have to continue our wine tasting career until we know a little more but I'm afraid that will take a long time.
A couple more days left in Cape Town until we begin our travels up the coast.
