Our public transport endeavours are well and truely doomed. After sharing a delightful car journey back to Windhoek with Claire and Johnny we were slightly depressed at the thought of another long distance bus journey. We were however relatively buoyed at the prospect of the sleepliner bus the epitome of bus travel to date complete with leg room, leg supports and reclining seats - what else could we wish for, other than a magic carpet of course.
I began to have an inkling that all was not well when we were running over an hourlate before even setting off. But no matter we were eventually on our way and positively smug in our comfy seats. That was until about 15 minutes into our journey and a mere few kilometres outside Windhoek our bus pulled up on the side of the road and began attempting to reverse. After grinding to a halt James and I exchanged a few glances and wondered if this would be another journey spent stranded at the side of the road. As the minutes ticked by our 'hostess' informed us there was a problem with the clutch and another bus was coming to pick us up, drop us off at 2am somewhere apparently on route where we'd have to change vehicle again. All smugness was now out the window.Soon we realised another uncomfortable 22 hours awaited us as the replacement buses were both crappy normal coaches! All that excitement over nothing!
Despite the mini dramas we arrived in Cape Town safe and sound, not surprised that our first bus suffered clutch problems as our driver was even worse at changing gear than I am. Anyway we're now in Cape Town and looking forward to a few days exploring and seeing the sights.
