Our wonderful time in Camiguin was destined to come to an end, a couple of days in Cagayan de Oro followed before flying back to Cebu and finally on to Singapore. Cagayan de Oro doesn't have a great deal to offer the discerning traveller other than Butchers Best Barbecue. Quite simply divine charcoal grilled sticks of meat ordered by the skewer for a very affordable price. We've missed having the option of street food in the Philippines as the descent stuff has remained elusive; this was a fitting find toward the end of our time here.
Yet possibly the most memorable event in CDO was checking in at the airport. We've become a dab hand at unpacking our bags at the check in desk and overloading ourselves with hand luggage to avoid excess baggage fees. However we were royally scuppered on this occasion, some bright spark had decided that all passengers be weighed with their hand luggage! Blooming genius! Wondering how we'd manage to wangle our way out of the 7 kilo carry on limit we were pleased to realise that the staff didn't seem to really care how much we or our hand luggage weighed rather they were just writing the figures down. No doubt having a bit of a giggle amongst themselves at the same time, especially when the two hefty westerners plonked themselves on the scales. In respect of our modesty I won't reveal the figures, needless to say 5 and a half months on the road is not benefiting our waistlines.
Returning to Cebu gave us an irrational sense of wellbeing, I think simply going back to a familiar city was exactly what we needed after months constantly on the go. Taking full advantage of the cities' amenities we stocked up before saying our goodbyes to the Philippines and heading to country number 10, Singapore.
