Hey All,
On Monday we went to Erawen Falls in the morning. 7 tiers of beautiful waterfalls cascading into bright blue pools. We woke up to clear skys and fierce sunshine, not the best day for walking 2km up the very steep path! :-) It was 37°C and the sun was pounding down. It certainly is very hot here! The hike was definitely worth it though, we stopped and had a dip in one of the pools and surprise suprise, Holly fell head over heels on a big slippery rock into one of the pools... wouldn't expect anything else eh!? :-)
After Erawen falls, lunch and lots and lots of water, we headed to an "Elephant Camp" where we went on an elephant trek. It was pretty nerve racking at points especially when we went in the river riding an animal that is notorious for rolling in water?! :-) It was a great experience though and our elephant (We christened her Nelly, original eh!) was lovely, she had big spotty ears and a white tip on her trunk! After the Elephant trek we had a more serene trip on a bamboo raft down the River Kwai.
In the afternoon we headed to a wooden viaduct on the River Kwai. It's part of the only remaining part of the "Death Railway" built by Allied POW's and Asian labourers between 1942-1943. We caught a train along the original track a few stops, the train journey was pretty cool, there was some amazing sights over the river and the lack of over-inforced health and safety rules here meant we got to sit on the train steps and watch the world go by! We later arrived at the Bridge over the River Kwai. The bridge stretched over what seemed to be the widest part of the river, it was quite sad to think of all the lives lost whilst building that stretch of the railway let alone the whole line. It was nice to see the bridge though especially since we know the whole history of it.
By the time we arrived back we were absolutely shattered so we crashed out for the evening.. We woke up the next morning (Tuesday) and checked out, we had a 3 hour bus journey back to Bangkok, which was rather bizarre really, the bus driver decided to pay a taxi to take us the final leg of the journey to the airport, we didn't mind it was just a bit strange! We finally made it to our Airport hotel after driving round in circles for a while because another Taxi driver didn't know where the Hotel was despite being quite happy to pick us up! lol We slept in the rather hot and noisy (aeroplanes and stray dogs) hotel and caught our flight to Chang Mai this morning.
Next Update there!
