Hey all!
We finally arrived in Phuket on Wednesday after two plane rides and a very long bus journey around every resort on the island (we were the last stop, would you believe it?!) We weren't feeling too pukka from the rather bumpy bus ride and the bus driver kindly dropped us at the BOTTOM of a huge hill (which he then had to drive up anyhow), such kindness! We battled through it, arriving rather hot and sticky at a big posh resort!
The room was very welcoming -- a big balcony, huge bed and a bath big enough to put your car in. We got a really nice room overlooking one of the eleven swimming pools - which we gave a good test run to later in the stay! We rented a film and slobbed out for the evening... Kung Foo Panda - Pete's choice...
On Thursday we went for a mooch around Kata Beach opposite where we were staying, one of the worse hit by the 2004 tsunami. It was really interesting to see how quickly local businesses had got back on their feet and moved on as though nothing had happened, they definately have a more positive outlook on life here.We had a walk around Kata town and found some of the most amazing food we've had since being here (not that the food is bad here by any means, it's all been lovely!) We went swimming in one of the pools and to the sauna briefly (approximately 4 minutes as Pete was complaining that he was hot...!)
On Friday it absolutely chucked it down with rain, not even to the point where an umbrella was of any use. We took advantage of the bad weather and had a rest day. We watched another film (Australia - research purposes of course!) then eventually we got itchy feet and decided it was time to brave the weather which thankfully had eased of a bit. We walked for miles around the town and country, up a mountain and back down towards our resort. It was at this point which the heavens opened and we got soaked! We decided this was a good time to find shelter and food.
Thats all from rainy Phuket!
Hol and Pete
